How a free QR code menu works

A guest points their phone camera at the QR code on the table and your menu opens in the browser, with no app, on iPhone or Android. You edit the menu in your Moymenyu account. Changes show the next time a guest opens or refreshes the menu, and the printed QR code stays the same.

If you are looking for a free QR menu maker, start with Moymenyu's Basic QR package: it is free, and you can do all five steps below with what it includes. New to the topic? Read what a QR menu is or compare QR and PDF menus.

  1. Sign up free: venue name, city, your name and phone number.
  2. Add your menu: type it, paste a list or photograph the paper menu.
  3. Choose a design and add your logo and cover photo.
  4. Print the QR codes: cards for your tables and one venue code for the door.
  5. Test on your phone and share the link.

Want to see the result first? Below is the live menu of Nar Kafe, a demo venue.

What you need to make a QR code menu

Get these ready before you sign up. Photos and a logo are optional.

  • Your menu as text or a clear photo: a typed list, a file or the paper menu you use now, with readable prices.
  • Dish photos (optional): one per dish. You can add them later, one at a time.
  • Your logo (optional): it shows on the menu and can sit in the middle of your QR codes.
  • A phone number for sign-up, and a printer for the QR cards.

No designer, website or guest app is needed.

Step 1: Sign up for free

Open the free sign-up page and enter:

  1. Restaurant or café name.
  2. City.
  3. Your name.
  4. Phone number, with its country code.

Sign-up is free, no card needed. Basic QR is always free, with no time limit. It includes one staff account, the owner's, which is enough to set up the menu and keep it up to date.

Step 2: Add your menu

There are three ways to add your dishes. Pick the one that matches the menu you have now.

Your menu can show prices in your own currency. The default is the Azerbaijani manat (₼); in Settings you can choose another, such as the US dollar ($), euro (€), pound (£), Turkish lira (₺) or UAE dirham (AED). Guests see every price in the currency you choose.

Option 1: Type it in

Create categories, such as salads, soups, hot dishes and drinks, then add each dish with its name and price. This suits a short menu or a new venue that has no printed menu yet.

Option 2: Paste a list

Already have the menu typed in a document or a message? Copy it and paste it as a list, one dish and its price per line, so you do not have to retype a long menu.

Option 3: Photograph the paper menu with AI

Take a clear, straight photo of your printed menu in good light. The AI reads the printed dishes and prices, then adds the other two languages and a short description for each dish. You check the result before saving.

The first AI scan per restaurant is free. Later scans cost 1 credit each, and credits are paid. The AI scan is available on every package.

Check the three languages, then add details

The menu can be in English, Russian and Azerbaijani. One name and a price are enough to start; names in the other two languages are optional, and you add them yourself: nothing is translated automatically, except by the AI photo scan. Where a translation is empty, guests see the main dish name. The menu opens in the language of the guest's phone when it is one of the three, and in English otherwise; a language switch lets guests pick another.

  1. Check each dish name in all three languages and fix anything that sounds odd.
  2. Add one photo per dish.
  3. Add sizes or options with their prices, such as 0.5 L and 1 L, or a single and double portion.
  4. Add diet and allergen tags. Guests can filter the menu by diet tags.

Step 3: Choose a design

Choose from 16 menu designs, so you do not need design skills. Pick a look, add your logo and cover photo, then check it on a phone.

  1. Look through the 16 designs and pick one that suits your interior and style.
  2. Upload your logo.
  3. Add a cover photo: your dining room, terrace or a house specialty.
  4. Open the menu on a phone and check that names and prices are easy to read.

Every menu shows a small “Menu by moymenyu” line.

Step 4: Print the QR codes

You get two kinds of QR code. Use one or both:

  • A separate QR code for every table, each on its own card.
  • One QR code for the whole venue, which opens your public menu page. Put it on the door or window and post it on Instagram.

The print sheet has 16 card templates in three sizes and QR styles with your logo in the middle.

SizeFormatWhere it works
A4Sticker sheet with 6 codesTables, the bar, the counter
A5Folding table tentStands on the table
A6CardSmall tables, the entrance
  1. Choose table codes, the venue code or both.
  2. Pick a card template and a size.
  3. Choose a QR style, with your logo in the middle if you like.
  4. Print the sheet, cut or fold the cards and put them in place.

Place cards where guests see them as soon as they sit down: in the middle of the table or on the edge facing the chair, not behind the napkin holder. Put the venue code at eye level on the door or window. Printed cards carry the moymenyu.com wordmark.

Step 5: Test with your phone and share the link

Before guests see the menu, check it as a guest would:

  1. Scan a table card with your phone camera. The menu should open in the browser, with no app.
  2. Check the categories, photos and prices, including the currency.
  3. Switch between English, Russian and Azerbaijani.
  4. Try the search and filters: “Available now”, diet tags, kids menu.
  5. Mark a dish as sold out, refresh the menu and check the mark, then switch it off.
  6. Ask a colleague with a different phone, iPhone or Android, to scan it too.

Then share the link in your Instagram profile and stories, in WhatsApp chats with regular guests and wherever people ask for your menu. If you spot a mistake later, fix it in your account. Guests see the change the next time they open or refresh the menu, and you do not need to reprint the QR codes.

Advice for a clear menu

  • Keep names short. “Lamb lula kebab” reads faster than a long sentence; put the details in the short description.
  • Show every price, including each size or option, so nobody has to ask the waiter.
  • Order categories the way they are served: salads and starters, soups, hot dishes, desserts, then drinks.
  • Use good photos of your own food: daylight, a plain background, the dish filling the frame.
  • Mark sold out instead of deleting. The dish stays on the menu with a sold-out mark; when it is back, switch the mark off and retype nothing.
  • Translate where it matters. If many of your guests read another of the three languages, fill in those names for your main dishes first.

When you want orders to go straight to the kitchen: Growth

To let guests send orders from the table straight to the kitchen, move to Growth: $7 per restaurant per month. Paid packages are available to venues in any country and invoiced in Azerbaijani manat at 1 USD = 1.70 ₼, so Growth comes to about 11.90 ₼. The free QR menu works in any country too.
